PLASTIC MOLDS

Top-quality production tooling.  Expert services from Art to Part.  With "Carlson 360", your products get to market faster at a lower total cost.

Carlson Tool builds a variety of plastic injection molds for a range of markets.  So do a lot of moldmaking companies.  So what makes us different?  At the RFQ stage, you will quickly notice the knowledge and understanding of plastic injection molding we apply to engineer the best solution for your needs.

Our plastic molds unit offers "Carlson 360".  A complete set of product development services, Carlson enables your company to leverage our proven ability to integrate, manage and execute new product development.  We have taken products from napkin sketches to patent awards and everything in between.  Carlson 360 impacts your business where it matters most: getting new products to market faster, at a lower total cost and in a way that complements and extends your current capabilities.

Carlson Plastic Molds Services and Approach:

Product Design Assistance We use our expert knowledge of resins, processing, robust part engineering, design and moldability to aid the entire design process.

Product Development We can take your napkin sketch and turn it in a tooling-ready model.  This often includes help with resin selection, proper part design for that resin, designing the part to minimize both molding costs and tooling costs and FEA analysis to insure the part meets design intent.  The results speak for themselves – our efforts have resulted in patents for our customers.

Prototyping – We provide assistance on prototype jobs of all sizes and types, from single samples to low production runs.

Process Development The majority of our molds get some sort of flow analysis performed first.  This can be a couple quick calculations to insure proper shear rates and acceptable pressure drops.  But more often we will be handling a full-blown flow analyses.  If needed, we will coordinate the resin characterization.  We frequently work with the resin suppliers.  Lead time is often a deciding factor for what level of analysis gets performed, so Carlson has a number of methods to maximize product and process robustness when time is short.

Mold Engineering For decades, Carlson has been a leading toolmaker and an early adopter of the latest technologies for advanced tooling.  We’ve earned a reputation for delivering production-ready molds up to 30,000 pounds.  While most tool shops offer mold design, we like to say we do mold engineering.  In instances where customers come to us to build molds for additional product capacity (as close as we can get to an apples-to-apples comparison with our competition), history shows Carlson engineers and builds molds that are longer-lasting, faster running and produce less scrap than our competitors.  We have done this in a broad range of molds for many customers.

Molding Support We offer expert molding and processing support, extending your engineering departments to better insure a project's success.

Post-Delivery Services Carlson believes our responsibility to the customer doesn’t end with delivery of the tool. That’s why we’ve dedicated an entire unit to the support of mold repair and engineering changes.

Gas-assist Molding Carlson Tool owns a Cinpres gas-assist unit and we have Cinpres-trained people on staff to help you with any gas-assist projects you might have.  Our gas-assist expertise has yielded results including a U.S. process patent and cost reduction projects that justified themselves in far less than a year.  In addition to Cinpres, we have done work with all the major gas-assist suppliers on various projects.

Innovation One thing fairly clear in any business these days, innovation is critical to success.  Choosing a mold builder by “years experience” is fine if you are looking for what they have already done.  More often than not our customers are looking for something new.  Our capacity, knowledge and understanding of engineering, plastics and mold-building allows us to quickly succeed in a broad range of areas including two-shot molds, stack molds, insert molds and gas-assist molds.

We are a phone call or e-mail away.  We would welcome the chance to speak with you about your projects and demonstrate what we can do.
